Age of the Dragons
Learned from the books in Iarno’s study beneath Tresendar Manor.
In the age of mages an agreement called Phandelver’s Pact was made between a clan of Giants and a few mages, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. The mages harnessed and bound that energy into a great forge (called The Forge of Spells), where magical items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. When the Age of Winter came, the mine was abandoned as it held no connection to other Angran territories.
The mine was rediscovered in The Age of Dragons (the current age), roughly 6th age 300. Mages came to study and miners came to mine, and the city of Tarren Hill was built on the ruins of Phandalin. A mage named Mormesk thought he had found how to use the Forge of Spells, and had a fine breastplate commissioned for his greatest friend – a man who had once saved his life. Unfortunately, Mormesk would never get the chance to test his theory – the Gnasha Warpath swept through the area, and all the residents of the mine and Tarren Hill were slaughtered or evacuated. The location of Wave Echo Cave was lost again – and few even knew of its existence.
